A Rigorous, Individualised Curriculum at Repton Al Barsha

Active learning and individualised teaching are the cornerstones of the Repton Al Barsha curriculum delivery. At Repton Al Barsha, we are preparing pupils not only to pass examinations but also for an enriched and productive adult life. Our curriculum is rigorous but this co-exists with sensitivity to the individual needs of our pupils, who are challenged but not overwhelmed.

The Repton Al Barsha curriculum is broad and balanced, retaining emphasis on reading, English, mathematics and science. Teaching is focused and subjects are delivered by exceptional teachers who have high expectations of their pupils. Parents can expect to see and follow their child’s work in books where neatness, good handwriting and accuracy are expected, as well as on digital platforms. Our teachers create a vibrant, stimulating environment, using modern methods and teaching philosophies, where appropriate.

Our curriculum, which follows the UK National Curriculum for England, is enhanced with elements of the ISEB curriculum and is designed to meet the rigorous standards expected for 11+ and Common Entrance examinations. Where necessary, extra support in preparing for these examinations will be given. Repton Al Barsha promotes inclusivity of both SEND and MAG&T pupils through the Repton Achievement Base (RAB).

Early Years Foundation Stage

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) at Repton Al Barsha provides a strong foundation for children's learning and development across seven key areas: communication, physical development, personal and social skills, literacy, mathematics, understanding the world, and expressive arts.

Our youngest Reptonians benefit from specialist lessons in music, French, Arabic, and P.E., and are introduced to phonics through the Read, Write, Inc. programme. The play-based, child-centered curriculum fosters curiosity, exploration, and independent thinking, tailored to individual needs.

In a nurturing environment, we focus on developing social skills and building a love for learning, with regular assessments to ensure every child thrives.

First School (Years 1 and 2)

In the First School at Repton Al Barsha, pupils build upon the skills gained in the Early Years Foundation Stage, with learning experiences designed to inspire curiosity and promote independence. We follow the National Curriculum for England, enhanced to reflect our UAE context and subject specialism. Additionally, we implement the Read Write Inc. approach to teaching phonics, streaming children across year groups to ensure targeted instruction.

Class teachers, who know their pupils well, serve as the first point of contact for pastoral care and adapt lessons to individual needs. They deliver a broad curriculum, including English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Art, Drama, Computing, Music, French, P.E., Arabic (A and B), and Islamic Studies (for Muslim pupils). The KS1 curriculum fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and a love for learning, laying a strong foundation for future success. For more details, refer to our Curriculum Guides for each year group.

Senior School (Years 7 to 11)

Our academic curriculum in the Senior School aims to inspire lifelong learning by blending traditional and innovative educational approaches.

In Years 7 to 9, we emphasise creative and expressive arts to develop pupils' appreciation for these subjects, enhancing their creativity, critical thinking, and independence, which benefits traditional academic subjects. Additionally, Arabic, Islamic, and Social Studies are integral parts of our Senior School curriculum, ensuring a well-rounded and culturally relevant education.

In Years 10 and 11, pupils prepare for and sit GCSE examinations. Most pupils study nine GCSE subjects, including six compulsory ones: Mathematics, English Language, English Literature, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. They also choose three optional subjects, ensuring a broad and balanced education. The core curriculum is designed to keep future university and career pathways open, offering flexibility for pupils to specialise according to their interests and expertise. Additionally, Arabic language is compulsory at GCSE for all native Arabic-speaking pupils.
